Thank you for your interest in becoming certified. SWOAM is responsible for administering Group 03 of the American Tree Farm's Group Certification Program. We are working closely with Maine Tree Farm and other organizations in making this process viable for the small landowner. Group certification reduces the cost for woodlot owners by certifying their lands as one unit under a single certificate.
Enclosed you'll find your certification application packet which includes:
- An application to become a member of the SWOAM Tree Farm Family
- Certification Process sheet and your responsibilities as a member
- A copy of the Standards for Sustainability for Forest Certification
- An easy to read interpretation of the standards
Please fill out the application and send it back to us along with a copy of your management plan and application fee. After it is received, I'll contact you to discuss a visit to your woodlot and we will move ahead as shown on the Certification Process sheet. We ask that you keep all certification paperwork together and will provide a notebook once you are certified. As you are aware, there is the possibility of a third-party audit on your land, and this notebook will help you keep your certification information organized so that the process goes smoothly as possible for everyone. Although it's not required we encourage you to go through this process with your natural resource professional. Having them present at the site visit will help everything go most smoothly.
